The idea for this podcast…

came from interviews our friend Ali did with Lama Adam in early 2021.  Ali’s interest in documenting his experience was the impetus for the Lama Taboot podcast, and Adam set out to recruit his old friend and fellow three-year retreatant, Lama Mitchell, for the conversation.

Ever since Adam and Mitchell realized their shared love of the band, they have found themselves using examples from Phish to talk about Buddhism, and examples from Buddhism to talk about Phish. Clearly, there is some kind of common ground.

Knowing how many Buddhists might be open to Phish but, more importantly, how many Phish fans might be open to Buddhist meditation and philosophy, it became apparent that this podcast had the potential to be of real benefit to all involved.

So, it is with the vast aspiration to bring benefit to all beings that we present the Lama Taboot podcast!

Lama Mitchell Singletary is trained in the Karma Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism, having completed the traditional three year retreat under the guidance of the Venerable Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche at Karme Ling Retreat Center in Delhi, New York.

He is also a passionate Phish fan since 2009. With a smile, he is surprised and excited to see these two worlds collide.

Lama Mitchell now lives and teaches Buddhism in his native Clinton, MS.

Lama Adam saw Phish in 1995, and has toured extensively since then, especially 1997-2001.

In 2020 he completed a traditional three-year retreat in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.

He is now a chaplain and Mindfulness Coordinator for Denison University, founder of the nonprofit Mindfulness For Life, and a speaker at meditation centers and other organizations. He especially enjoys his one-on-one coaching sessions with meditators of all backgrounds.
